My Pug Is Sick Again With Crystals In Her Urinary Track?

I've had my (almost two year old female/spayed) pug now for since last August. She was fine until I went away for a week vacation (leaving her in her own home with my 20 year old son who loves her, plays with her, walks her, etc.....) and came back to find that a day or two later; she was not peeing; except maybe once a day. After day two I called the doctor and got her in on day 3. She started developing crystals in her urine track; not a good thing, but after pee tests and anti-biotics; she cleared up fine and started peeing again several times per day. Then about a month later, same thing, went to vet, crystals present, cleared up.............by the way, I also changed her diet as suggested and everything else they suggested to get her to pass he crystals........and she was o.k....now, same thing...........past several days she will pee o.k. then not pee most or all of the day...........there has got to be something that I can do long term to help her with this problem. I've spent around $650 in vet visits, tests, meds, etc........in the past few months..........now don't get me wrong.....she is worth every penny and more...........she is wonderful! I asked the vet if vet insurance would be a good idea.......I had a long talk with the assistant and she said "no" in the long run it would cost more.......o.k............well, between everything needed to keep a pug happy and healthy (wipes for wrinkles, ear cleaner/swabs, special diet, groomer (I don't cut her nails, they are dark and I am afraid to make a mistake).........special allergy shampoo, etc............she costs me more than the rest of my family............lol...........once again, not complaining, I did my homework........but.............she is sick way too often..............Any help would be appreciated.......If I lost her, I'd be devestated!

Why does my dog stink?

Trimming your cat's nails would do fine. And you can also teach the cat (They are often stubborn) not to scratch you. What I do to prevent destruction, is just make sure the Cat-Scratch-Post is always handy. So far we've only had troubles with our newest cat (We now have 4). My family trims all our cats' claws, and it helps a lot.

Well, I've had my my dog for about 6 years now and yesterday we got her fur shaved because it was getting hotter out. So after when my mom and I went to pick her up from the groomers she was fine but after when we were having dinner so went downstairs half way through(which was weird because she always stays by our side when we have food) So we eventually got her upstairs and put the gate up and she kept going to go downstairs but stopped at the gate. Speech fluency in morning after taking antihistamine at bedtime?

Can anyone give me insight into why I have trouble speaking easily and fluidly the morning after I wake up having taken Zyrtec at bedtime? Interesting that my adult son has the same problem, and it appears to wear off in the afternoon. Does the drug do something to brain speech centers? Does it have something to do with higher cortisol levels in the morning? I've already reduced the dose to the minimum amount to control my allergies, and the other agents (Allegra, Claritin) simply aren't as effective. It does not appear to be an issue with dry mouth or throat. Any ideas on how to prevent this from happening? Thanks for any help you can give.

Has anyone had the experience of beginning to learn another language as an adult who later reached native speaker fluency level? I began studying another language 3.5 years ago, managed to fall into a job about a year ago where I speak that language most of the day and speak it socially most of the time. However, I still struggle with generating some of the verb tenses during conversation and I stumble at times trying to remember the gender of a noun or the order of the words. Some of the most difficult verb tenses I am still unsure about. I've always wanted to be a pet groomer. Not exactly as a career, but more to help me work my way through college, and maybe as part time when I settle on a career. Would a border collie suit my lifestyle?

Ok. I have two other dogs. My little brothers and my dads. A beagle and a small black and tan. (she's only 19" and almost a year old) they both do awesome with other dogs. If in learning Spanish you didn't have problems with mixing English and Spanish, you should have no problems with Italian because you'll be using a different frame of reference. I always thought I wouldn't be able to learn French after I had learned Spanish. I'm not fluent in French and what I know has never been mixed with Spanish at which I am fluent. Dog limping (back leg)?

My dog is a male 8 year old maltese/pekingese cross. Since last night he has not put his back right leg on the ground when he walks and is limping pretty bad, but his leg doesn't hurt when i touch it (I touched his foot, knee and the rest of his leg and he didn't yelp). Accordingly, your writing lacks transition words between and at the beginning of sentences. Writing in first person seems to hold you back. The wound is right below where my nail bed is. It doesn't appear to be very deep but it bled quite a bit. It hasn't bruised yet but it is red and swollen close to the laceration. It is numb and tight, but a lot of the pain is on my knuckle even though there isn't any redness there. Putting any pressure on my thumb also causes sharp pain. I am so used to these things I know I am not just being a baby. Did I hit a nerve or bone maybe?

We have had dogs brought in by owners that have been reported to the humane society and been forced to get them groomed because of neglecting the grooming. Ecuador is an awesome country. I would say it's one of the best places to raise a child, well, education and cultural factors may vary depending of your socioeconomic level, of course. I won't lie, there is a lot of crime in the city, but then again there's a lot of crime everywhere and I believe it's significantly less than in big cities like NY. In the capital city of Quito at least, there are tons of bilingual schools and most are usually searching for teachers who are native English speakers since the contracts only last for a couple of years. The pay's not great, sure, but the living expenses are remarkably lower than in the US and other countries so it's not that much of a problem. I live in Ecuador and go to a private High School where most of the teachers are from the US and from what I've e been able to observe they look really happy and well off and more often than not, they renew their contracts. I've been a groomer for 10 years, and we do plenty of dogs that are old, or even aggressive, and we can handle it. A good groomer won't turn a dog away for a minor health problem like that. And groomers and kennels don't fall under the same rules as public places, if your dog bites a groomer it doesn't get reported and go on his record (again, at least not if it's a good groomer, we've never reported a dog bite to animal control or the police).

Why does my singing voice sound staccato?

Let me explain. I have a good singing voice, and i know this because i have a professional mic that i use to record on my computer. But Any who, When i sing, My voice is staccato. Like every word i sing it separate from the last. So it sounds a little choppy instead of fluent. The only way to know for sure is to have a test done on your dogs feces. Take a sample to the vet (keep it refrigerated until you can take it). Even though you didn't see anything in the feces when you looked there could be microscopic parasites in there. Depending on the type of worm your groomer may not have noticed anything unusual. Worms are easily treated with medication, however if left untreated it can be very serious, even fatal.

I'm very sorry this happened, is it possible the groomer hurt the dog? I would get a statement from your vet saying the dog was fine before being groomed and take it to them asking for help with your vet bills, lest you take them to court. They may help you, they may not, but it's worth a shot, especially if your dog was fine before getting groomed there. Hell, you could even visit with a lawyer and have the lawyer send the groomer a letter, that might scare them into helping. I honestly believe something happened there that they never told you. My girlfriend is from Mexico. I am from the United States (white). We have been together for six years, and plan to get married. We have had this problem from the start pretty much. Start running your hands down her shoulders and legs while she's standing, but stop at the 'wrists' about 4 inches above the floor. Talk/whisper to her that she's a good dog as you do this. Gradually go down a little further each day till you reach the paw and try leaning her a tad to one side to pick up that paw. Hey groomers! What can I use to make my dog’s coat lay smooth instead on stand up and frizz out?

When you bathe your dog blow the hair down and with the grain of the coat. Do not fluff dry it up. You can also mix one teaspoon of glycerin to one pint of water and spray onto the coat. Some people will use a creme rinse solution too. Wet the coat slightly and towel or blanket the dog. Take a large bath towel and lay it over the dog. With three large blanket pins, pin the towel at the throat, under the belly and under the tail. You can leave on overnight or take off after a few hours. For the neck you can use a dish towel from the ears to the shoulders to make the hair on the neck lay down. Below is an example.

Why does my dog jump every 20 seconds as if bitten?

Hello, my two-year old male neutered shih tzu got groomed 5 days ago and has been acting strange ever since. Groomer is trusted. My dog was strangely sleepy on the car ride home, then the next day I noticed him depressed, lethargic, and increasingly uncomfortable esp. at night, often just sitting up staring at me all through the night. For 3 days, he has been jumping every 20 seconds, as if startled or bitten. He has no fleas. He did get a preventative flea treatment at the vet, but not the dipping kind so I have ruled out allergy to dipping. Poor guy hasn't slept! Any ideas? My groomer could not figure it out. Thank you!

Grooming your dog help please!?

I wash my 7 month old puppy at home since I do want to pay a fortune for groomers. Washing my dog(with another person with me) I have no problem. The thing that I need some help or advice would be blow drying my dog. She doesn't like any sort of loud sounds for example the vacuum cleaner or the hair dyer. She would bark excessively at these sounds until the machine device is turned off. I was wondering how you would get my dog to stop barking and sit still at these sounds while I am grooming her and even cleaning my house. Thanks for the help. P.s. How hard is it to learn 2 languages at once (and fluency)?

If you're really willing to learn those languages then it shouldn't be too hard if you put in the time and effort. However, it will definitely be harder than just learning one. By learning them at different levels it'll probably be easier for you than if you started them all at once. I know I managed to study French and Japanese at the same time, and currently my French is near-fluent while my Japanese is semi-fluent (I started that one later). So I say go for it. :) However, I would suggest only studying unrelated languages this way. If you study similar ones it'll get confusing.

I am 25 yrs. old and have been a dog groomer for 5 years. Back in November 2010, I had an injury to my hand while at work. I was combing out a dog, which is very repetitive and had shooting pains in my left hand through the middle of the wrist. Since then my left hand has about 50% of the strength that the right one does. I have numbness in both hands at night. My left forearm is constantly swollen. I also have two very small ganglion cysts on my wrist. I experience a cramp like pain in my hand often while I am at work. I was sent to have the needle EEG test for carpal tunnel and my results came back as normal. I am also currently taking 15mg of Meloxicam once a day for the inflammation. Could this still be carpal tunnel? I am awaiting another appointment with my orthopedic doctor. Thanks in advance for your help.

My dog wont go to the bathroom and seems like he's in alot of pain, what can i do?

My dog, Oreo, wont go to the bathroom and seems like he's in a lot of pain. He has had back problems before but we just aren't sure what the problem is. He walks really low to the ground and stops to sit as much as possible. He also walks really fast, so he can get to the carpet or inside. (He's not an outside dog, this is when we take him outside) And he wont walk without a leash and we're not even pulling on him, he's willing to go with a leash. And we just had him at the groomers, and at my grandma's house, but we are leaving again today (our schedule isn't always this busy) And I also think he has anxiety issues with us being gone. Why do Shih Tzu's and Lhasa's need frequent baths?

They don't if you don't keep them in long coat. One of my Tzu has very fine hair that does not do well long so unfortunately we had to shave his body - would never recommend shaving the coat. Our other has a gorgeous coat and is kept long, she needs more regular baths but we do bath them both at the same time as the one in short coat has allergies so that helps him. & they must be fully dried with a hairdryer.

Do you use clippers or scissors? Try introducing her to the scissors, let her sniff them, give her a treat and put them away. If you are using clippers so may be afraid of the sound. So, again, let her sniff it and give her a treat and put it away. After a while try turning them on so she can hear the noise, and give her a treat. Be patient! She needs to see it as something positive, so if she is use to seeing them and getting a treat she'll get excited and perhaps remain calm.

It really really is a great idea and should be done. Actual bones like Bully Sticks or Raw Bones are way better than "Milk Bones" or dry kibble. Chewing on something like a bully stick does help. Not Rawhide which is bad for dogs. Rawhide is not digestible and if the dog swallows a larger piece you risk a stomach blockage not to mention they are not the healthiest things in the world. But besides that the are some good sprays likeLeba which also work great keeping the teeth healthy and white. But nothing works like brushing besides once you buy the tooth brush and paste the main cost is done and they last awhile. It is "old school" not to brush.

I agree with Vie, he might be traumatized from something, maybe he just needs attention and not share it with the other 2 dogs, all personalities are different human and animals alike. Get the behaviorist help and follow up. Some dogs are harder than others to understand but ultimately all dogs are to be understood. It sounds as if you love your dogs, extend the search and find a good behaviorist to help you understand him. If not, and it might sound a bit silly, call those dog training shows ( 'dog whisperer' or 'it's me or the dog' ). It takes time and a lot of patience. If you don't have the time and your brother truly cares for the dog and is willing to spend the time and give the love and patience then leave the dog with him. He might miss you in the beginning but if he gets the love and attention he needs he will be ok in no time.

I think it would helpful for you. My teachers always said the best way to remember learn a language is listen to it and practice it. We took him to the groomer to be washed, brushed and groomed. There was a new owner. We told her we liked the way the previous owner always did a good job getting any tangles out without shaving our dog. Later my husband went to pick up the dog and found that he had been shaved. Yeah, Rosetta Stone is a bad idea.. I'd say.. try youtube tutorials. I'm learning Japanese and Korean so I've had to learn how to pronounce their words (like with Japanese~ a,e,i,o,u is pronounced 'ah, eh, ee, oh, oo' and so on), so try and find youtube tutorials and also asking someone who knows how to speak (even some) of that language is a good idea. You'll probably sound terrible learning to speak it, but after some practice, you'll definitely sound more fluent.^^

So my dog has white fur and has been randomly forming these yellow circles around his torso and other places around his body. My dog keeps attempting to lick and itch these circles, and they are obviously annoying him. The last time I took him to groom/cut his hair he formed one of these yellowish/orange circles and I ignored it and his hair got longer so I did not really see it through his hair. Now I went to go cut his hair again and he formed four or five of these circles and the groomer said to take him to the vet to check on the circles, although last time we just thought the groomer cut him. Should I shave my dog or not?

When we got my maltese, my mom and I were a little careless and didn't take it seriously that they need to be brushed OFTEN. and so he ended up getting mats all over him...and for a while we were working hard to brush them out and try to cut them out but there were just so many, and more would appear and they started meshing together...and i don't really notice it anymore, we just got used to it, but whenever i give him a bath i see all the mats and it's just not good...my dad thinks we need to just shave him and get a fresh start but i'm not so sure (and my mom will need a LOT of convincing). So my two questions: one, would a dog groomer actually groom all the mats out for us? then we wouldn't need to shave him. and two: when should we shave him, if we do? my dad thinks summer because then he won't get cold and he'll be less vulnerable to fleas, but i think he'd get really sunburned in the summer, i heard that happens to dogs like him. but i don't want him to get too cold...what time of year is best?

Dogs aren't that fond of change. They like to follow the same regimen day in,day out. I'm sure they must feel exposed once the hair is gone. Your doggy should be fine. Just give her time to get used to it.

Smelly cat butt!!!! help?

Hi. As soon as I get my next paycheck I'm taking my cat to the groomers... I just got a new cat, and the vet says its irritated because of her biting and licking, cause of tapeworm. Her behind looks nasty. It looks infected or something and the vet didn't give me anything for her butt, just the worms. I want to pet and love my cat and this is sooo much within the first week of having her..but the smell honestly makes me want to vomit just her walking by me. I can't have her on the furniture. have you looked into other schools. maybe a charter school if possible. my son was having the same problem with his old school.....when i would send extra work for him, his teacher would make him put it away, because he didnt have time to help him. (my son didnt need the help) my son would ask the teacher for extra work and again he was told to just do the work that was given. so i found an aspire charter school in my neighborhood, and wow, what a great difference. this school is really focused on these kids. in my sons class for reading, they are frequently tested, and moved to different groups accordingly. charter schools are still public, so no charge. now is the time to do your homework, LOL! i'm sure your daughter will really appriciate it. good luck, and never give up!!

Well the chances are that he didnt have a very good experience at the groomers. He probably has decided that everybody is "out to get him" and so he doesnt trust anyone. What can I do for my dog who is aggressive when he is scared?

Usually this occurs at home when someone lights a firework in the neighborhood, or if he sees people he doesn't know. He is a terrier mix and 27 pounds. He is 5 years old. Most of the time he is a wonderful dog but he is only comfortable with certain people. He is still a little iffy around my brother in law and nephews and has bitten them a few times. He gets in weird moods where he is territorial also. If he is under the bed, he growls at anyone who tries to get him out. Also, if someone walks to the bathroom, he runs to our room which is right next to it and growls. He isn't like this with me, my husband or my parents. Also, he has never been aggressive towards the vet, groomer, or when I leave him at a kennel when I go on vacation. If he is panicking because of a firework or some other reason, he often snaps at my husband or anyone who is near him. Anytime someone comes over, I have to put him in my room because I'm worried he will bite. He looks interested and really friendly but as soon as they either stand up or get to close, he growls or snaps. How can I teach him not to bite out of fear? Since he isn't like this often, I don't know that obedience school would help. We may not be able to simulate the examples since many times they are unexpected.

Long hair dog grooming - how to do a hygiene cut at home using scissors?

I have a Shih Tzu, recently adopted from a rescue. When we got her she was shaved completely because of mats and such. Now she has been getting a healthy food, and her hair is growing out. Her hair around her butt is really long and shaggy, and I think I need to trim it because she has pooed on it before and I had to give her a bath. I hate to take her to the groomers because I just had her nails trimmed and dremeled a week and 1/2 ago, and her hair is not so long that it needs to be cut (I plan to grow her hair out long anyway). She has a 2 inch top knot at the moment and what looks like a puppy cut, and is very fluffy. The groomers wants 45 to cut/bath/etc her but all I want is the hygiene cut.. but they don't do just that, so I have to get it all done or nothing. There aren't many groomers where I live so I don't have much choice to either cut it myself or pay $45. How do I do a hygiene cut at home? My boyfriend loves his devildog...?

...and refuses to train him. The dog has to be sedated to get his hair trimmed once a year because he bites the groomers. He will growl at and bite anyone who gets near his food when he's eating... even his master. He scratches and digs and licks himself constantly because of his dry skin, and my boyfriend won't give him a bath because the dog doesn't like to get wet. Actually you aren't supposed to wash before combing out or shaving, since it makes the mats worse. Just keep him a little stinky. If you bathe him, the mats will be worse so when your cat is shaved, the mats will pull harder and would hurt. You are always supposed to brush BEFORE bathing-thats what vets and day cares are supposed to do. Hope I helped :)

Shaving my husky dog?

I have a husky, blue heeler, and Australian shepherd mix that I am considering shaving because it is so hot out. I've had a few groomers tell me not to shave her because husky's have a coat that insulates them and keeps them cool and if i shave them their coat will not grow back the same.
